My name is Erika, and I'm an (almost) librarian. I am passionate about teaching, collaboration, design, and emerging technologies. This is just a snapshot of a few things I'm proud of, thanks for saying hi.
In the winter of 2019 I worked with the Data Services team at the University of Washington Libraries. You can read about my updates here. Note: you will need a UW NetID to access. As part of my fieldwork, I drafted a short bibliography on topics relevant to the Data Services Team at UW, such as collection development, outreach and engagement, and differing departmental models. In creating the bibliography, I was disapointed in a lack of research and resources about accessibility for data and datasets. I've drafted a short series of recommendations for the Libraries that you can read here.
I worked with the Undergraduate Student Success Team at the University of Washington Libraries from June - December 2018. You can read about the programs I worked on, the style guide I created, and the bibliography I wrote in my reflection here. Design by me.
My teaching philosophy is influenced by critical and culturally responsive pedagogies, and focuses on student-led active learning. I regularly teach information literacy and work with students at the busy reference desk at Seattle Central College and serve on the teaching team for the UW Libraries' Storytelling Fellows.
In the Research Commons I have worked on creating several displays and collections. Over Summer Quarter 2018 we created this display and corresponding bookmarks in response to current events and concern in our community. Design by me.
At the UW Libraries I helped to coordinate and run the annual GIS Symposium. This event featured graduate student and faculty researchers from across many disciplines who use GIS tools and highlighted the library's GIS services. Design by me.
